Installation Methods +
Method 1: Screw Into Wood Handrail
This method is used when you want to secure your balusters directly into the wood handrail. We'll drill countersunk thru-holes in the top of the baluster which help hide the screw and sit flush.

Screw Into Wood Handrail Method 2: Screw Into Metal Bar
This method is used when there is a metal bar that sits underneath the wood handrail. We'll drill threaded holes (drill & tap) in the top of the baluster so that the balusters can be secured to the metal bar. This makes the screws completely hidden as they are covered by the wood handrail.

Length and Angle +
Balusters need to be cut to length to ensure they fit properly with your handrail. Angle cuts are recommended for angled sections of your stairs to ensure the balusters fit perfectly with the handrail.

Measuring Baluster Length
Measure the distance from the bottom of the handrail to the top of the stair tread. Add the depth of your stair tread holes and depth of your handrail holes to get your baluster cut length. You may not have any holes in your handrails depending on your install method. If you have any questions, contact us for assistance or to order a sample to test your measurements.

Measuring Angle
Angle cuts are recommended for angled sections of your stairs to ensure the balusters fit perfectly with the handrail.

You can use a smartphone app called Handy Bubble Level DIY on iOS or Bubble Level on Android to measure the angle of your stairs.

The tolerance of your angle measurements can be off by ±2 degrees and still fit fine.

Powder Coating +
Powder coating is highly recommended for aesthetic appeal and as a protective layer. It is applied as a dry powder and cured under heat. It provides a tougher finish than traditional paints and is more resistant to scratching, chipping, and fading.

If you don't see your color listed, we can order your custom color in. Feel free to contact us to discuss more.

FAQs

What are the pros and cons of solid balusters?

Pros: Solid balusters offer additional strength and durability which lengthens the lifespan of a staircase. Solid reduces vibrations, noise and rattling as people use the staircase. They also feel higher quality than hollow balusters.

Cons: Solid balusters are heavier than hollow balusters, which can make it more difficult to install. If shipped, solid balusters also cost more to be delivered.

What products are made or modified in Canada?

These products are 100% Made in Canada using Canadian steel — from raw materials to finished product.

The rest of our balusters are Modified in Canada, meaning we perform these modifications locally on imported materials:

  • Length cut
  • Angle cut
  • Drill & Tap
  • Powder Coating

What happens if I scratch my balusters?

Powder coating is durable but can still be damaged or scratched. For a small scratch, you can touch up your balusters using spray paint.

For balusters that were powder coated Flat/Matte Black, we recommend this spray paint.

Can I use my balusters outside?

No, we do not recommend you use our balusters outside as they're only rated for indoor use.

Do you offer discounts for contractors?

Yes, we offer discounts to contractors and builders. To access discounted pricing and faster manufacturing times, please contact us.
