Do I need length and angle cuts?
Balusters need to be cut to length to ensure they fit properly with your handrail.
Angle cuts are recommended for angled sections of your stairs to ensure the balusters fit perfectly with the handrail.
Provide us with your measurements and we will cut the balusters for you.
Read our ordering guide, to learn how to measure your staircase to determine baluster lengths and angles.
How do I measure the baluster length and angle?
Read our ordering guide to learn how to measure baluster length and angle.
What installation method do I need?
Method 1: Screw Into Wood Handrail
This method is used when you want to secure your balusters directly into the wood handrail. We'll drill countersunk thru-holes in the top of the baluster which help hide the screw and sit flush.
Method 2: Screw Into Metal Bar
This method is used when there is a metal bar that sits underneath the wood handrail. We'll drill threaded holes (drill & tap) in the top of the baluster so that the balusters can be secured to the metal bar. This makes the screws completely hidden as they are covered by the wood handrail.
Method 3: Pin Top
This method is used when you do not want to screw into the wood handrail and prefer to let the baluster sit in a hole drilled into the underside of the handrail. It is typically secured with epoxy. This option is less secure than screw-in methods and may allow more movement over time. The pin top is visible from certain angles and angle cuts are not available with this method.
To learn more, read our ordering guide.
Do I need powder coating?
Powder coating is not strictly necessary, but it is highly recommended for balusters. Powder coating is used for aesthetic appeal and as a protective layer. It is applied as a dry powder and cured under heat. It provides a tougher finish than traditional paints and is more resistant to scratching, chipping, and fading. We do powder coating in-house and offer different colors.
What powder coating colors do you offer?
We offer a wide selection of powder coating finishes:
- Black Flat/Matte
- Textured Black
- White Flat/Matte
- Pearl Silver
- Oil Rubbed Bronze
- Copper Vein
- Silver Vein
- Dorado Gold
- Gun Metal
- Burnt Penny
- Brass Gold

What are the pros and cons of solid balusters?
Pros: Solid balusters offer additional strength and durability which lengthens the lifespan of a staircase. Solid reduces vibrations, noise and rattling as people use the staircase.
Solid Balusters can be installed using the "Screw Into Wood Handrail" method or "Screw Into Metal Bar" method which is much more secure than Pin Top Hollow Balusters. Hollow Balusters With A Metal Insert can also be secured using the same reliable methods as Solid Balusters.
Cons: Solid balusters are heavier than hollow balusters, which can make it more difficult to install. If shipped, solid balusters also cost more to be delivered.
For a more detailed analysis, read this article.
Can I order a sample to test my baluster length and angle?
If you're unsure about your measurements, we recommend ordering one or more individual samples to confirm the fit on your staircase. Samples are quick to produce and ship, and can help you avoid costly mistakes. Order a sample here.
What products are made or modified in Canada?
These products are 100% Made in Canada using Canadian steel — from raw materials to finished product.
What happens if I scratch my balusters?
Powder coating is durable but can still be damaged or scratched. For a small scratch, you can touch up your balusters using spray paint.
For balusters that were powder coated Flat/Matte Black (our most popular color), we recommend this spray paint.
Can I use my balusters outside?
No, we do not recommend you use our balusters outside as they're only rated for indoor use.
